Mini Update

I'm not sure if I should be letting you know coz it's not really an update after all...

But I've asked a friend who works for a certain "big" company (they also do lots of concerts and events) to try to spread the awareness of this blog within the company. Hopefully someone there will take notice and help us out. *cross fingers and toes*

As for the placards, Sue gave the idea of putting up posters in colleges. I think that might help. I'll try not to procrastinate too much though. Btw, am looking forward to the interview Sue did in IF online magazine. ;)

Write up by IF online magazine.

It's been awfully quiet. Although I've promised to work on my tent cards (guilty guilty, as charged!), I haven't. It's just that I've been occupied with my own work and life so I haven't had the time to focus on other stuff. However, the good news is I've been er... interviewed. No. I won't put it as 'interviewed', it's more like some quick questions and answers by the editor of IF online magazine. You can download the launcher here. The write-up will only come about in October so yea, one more month to go :) I'm excited because it IS extra coverage. I'm also trying to get some contacts to help promote this... maybe an event? I don't know. Nothing is set yet and I'm quite hazy myself. Which I know, I should NOT blog yet less I get your hopes too high :D Hehe, but what to do! Excited ma!

p.s: I've also posted a bulletin in Norah Jones' MySpace, so hopefully we get some hits from there :)

Sunrise & Table Tent

Hey people, first thing... I've changed the featured song to 'Sunrise'. If that song made Linora like Norah Jones... It can probably attract more people who visits this site to like her too!

Next, I've done a table tent or two... I just do not know where to tag it.. Perhaps you guyz can help to ask around (Nick, have you checked with Starbucks?), if they're ok with it then I'll tag there. Sounds good? Let me know asap, yeah? Thanks!

it's not too late...

i posted this album cover up especially for those that's beginning to get a hazy vision of norah... :)

Starbucks

Hey guys, sorry for being MIA for awhile, been rather busy of late. Anyway, the signatures are still slow :( We need to push more!! I got an idea which might work. I know one of the marketing managers of Starbucks Malaysia, and I'm going to ask if they are willing to "collaborate" with us in letting us put up the placards/fliers in their outlets. I think it would be a good place to promote this as I would think 7 out of 10 people who chill out at Starbucks likes Norah Jones! Well, it's a long shot and there won't be promises made, but hey...no harm trying right?

Hello All

Harlooooo

Linora here.. but I will tend to revert to myself as AroniL online =P... don't mind me. A pleasure meeting you all and just a brief intro on meself.

I work right next to Sue, hence I have lost most of my sanity... whatever that is left of it anyway...lol! I am a planner at McCann Erickson and a complete and utter geek. I have found out that I'm rather technosexual.... can't tell if that is a good thing or not...but I take it to be rather interesting. I am big mess in a sense, that I have way too many interests, for my own good. haha.

But yes that is me, and yes i'm a converted Norah Jones fan, since she did her song 'Sunrise'. So power to the ways of blogging and may we eventually get to bring her down.

Brilliant start up to the whole thing...and especially you Sue...hehe ^_^ Lets see how far we can take it.

Tag the stores.

I realised that it's not gonna work if we just sit around and wait for some printer to drop from the sky :) Well, I mean WHILE waiting, we could work on something else.

I got an idea over the weekend. I think I know how each of us who sworn to be Norah's fan can really help this site. Ha ha ha. Faith testing time peoplez, so... we now see who will eat their words and who won't :)

It's simple. The idea is YOU, yes you, create maybe one or two or three (or more!) table tents yourself. Break free from whatever pre-conceived rules of how table tents should look like. For those who are not from advertising, table tents are basically a 'tent' looking card usually found on the cashier's desk or even at restaurants' tables to promote stuff. So, you can do it really cool looking. Or you can make it look really rustic. You can even go crazy with it. It's up to you. Now what happens once you've made one? Remember, you don't have to print. You can draw, doodle, spray-paint, whatever. It can be 1m size (!), 10cm, 1cm, also, whatever. You decide. So once you've got them ready. All you have to do is take it to your favourite store - record store, bookshop, cafe, boutique, whatever (<-- most used word of the day) and ask if you can leave it at the cashier. Once it's done. I urge you to take a picture of it and either post it here (if you're a blogger) or mail it to us (if you're not) and we'll post it up :) So we know which places are 'tagged'. I think that's kinda fun. It's got an element of surprise. Who knows we may be visiting the same stores and be nicely surprised!

So yea. Let me know what you think. No. I don't wanna know what you think. I wanna know if you'd do it.

Peace!

Placards/Table Tents.

Hey, am just wondering if anyone is printing it? I can't get hold of the people whom I armtwisted :P SEE. That shows one thing. Armtwisting doesn't work. All hail democracy and crowd wisdom.

More Links!

Hey all,

A quick check on the counter statistics showed that we have 2 more sites linking to us - JunkOnline and Jayelle. Many thanks to everyone for the support!! Keep it up!!

P.I.M.P

hey guys we are yet again being 'pimped' on another blog... :)

http://ellone.com/?p=201

Stellar status.

Our blog is slowing down. But that's okay, if it can sustain after the initial hype means there's really something here. If it can't. Then I guess it's not meant to be :) Or simply means we need a longer brewing time. Anyway. I called Rahul from Stellar and spoke to him. Although they've contacted NJ's management and have been given a figure, it's not confirmed. It's a ballpark figure which means if there are a couple of 'sponsors' bidding for her performance, the highest one gets it. Now. Looks like we've came to our first crossroad. In order to proceed, there are two choices:

1) We, ourselves, look for possible sponsors. Then approach Stellar. It should be a sum that's enough to cover for the whole event inclusive Stellar's fee. Er. Basically what this means is, we're becoming an event's company. Ha ha. How we're evolving!

2) We do not actively seek for sponsors. Instead we just concentrate on creating hype about this blog. And trying guerrilla means to promote this website in hope for more signatures, votes and visitors. So that we're very indirectly attracting sponsors.

If you ask me to decide. I will choose number 2. If we take the first route, I think we're probably moving into unchartered waters. Although some of us may have strong credentials in events management (and I don't have a single doubt on that!), we may be biting more than we can chew. Especially if this is a non-profit project, dealing with finance is highly delicate. Stellar could use US as a proof if they want to approach any sponsors but at this point, I think they prefer a more passive stance. Looking for sponsors for this event, I must warn everyone, is not simply drafting a letter and sending it to companies. The projection, proposal, cost breakdown, everything takes a lot of time. With all of us having our own jobs to give enough headaches, I think we need to consider the effort versus the result. Besides, even if we manage to get a sponsor, NJ may choose to go to another with a higher bid. Which means, good for us, she IS coming. But it also means that our effort was unnecessary.

Number 2 route allows us to remain true to our mission which is to get enough publicity and attention, that hopefully SOMEONE will notice us. If you ask me, of course the other way has more chances of seeing this happen because if there are no bidders, it means WE will be the ones bringing her over. A pro-active stance always have a higher chance :) BUT. Being also aware of our limitations, I think just publicizing this blog and getting enough public attention on it will equally do the job. We've got till 31st December :)

Anyway. Just my two cents worth. If you guys have any other thoughts, please share. If majority feels that we ought to be more pro-active, then we will be more pro-active. First step is to appointing people to delegate responsibilities and setting deadlines.

Let me know what's on the people's mind y'all :)

Support we have!

Such great news on a Monday morning...also after much persuasion, our site our now being 'pimp' on Earl Ku's infamous site...but he said we Norah's groupies will have to pay...lol

Norah Jones MIGHT be coming!

I've got good news... and some so-so news. I won't call them bad news, rather I prefer to call them as challenges instead. A BIG challenge.

Anyway, we've got reply from Stellar Entertainments and seems like they've contacted Norah's management and... (drumroll), they're interested to come here!!! Only on two conditions though. One: she'll come during Spring 2008 (which is next year Q1 baybeh!). And two, there's a certain amount of money which we have to raise. I don't know if it's okay for me to post it here because if Stellar's gonna help us out, I don't know if they want the cost to be advertised so blatantly in our blog. The challenge is... the cost isn't THAT impossible to raise but it's not a small figure either. Let's just say we need about 1800 to 2000 people paying RM150-200 (the bigger the figure, the safer we are, so these are just ballpark figures). Unless of course, we can get sponsors in... DiGi boy, you're hearing me? Hint hint!

By the way, I'm gonna email Borders and KLUE and maybe Mix.FM today, cause I think we need some media support. Amanda says we've got a willing sponsor to print the tickets for free (woohoo~) in exchange for a few free tickets. Hehe, I think that can be done. And also I've armtwisted by ex-company to help out with the tent cards. My advice is, don't wait for them Janice, just do your tent cards and if we have the extra ones from them, it'll be a bonus.

Okay. Help everyone! Help!

We're just a few steps away from seeing her :D

More Sites for BringNorah!

Hello hello...well our blog is just one week and a day old, but check this out! I googled Bring Norah and we already have 3 other sites that feature the project - thanks to Lil'Patchee and Midnite Lily!

We also got that petition running and hobbes has posted a story on DIGG. We're getting more exposure from day to day...thanks to all of your effort. I believe we can do better, perhaps start getting bloggers like kennysia to help us post bout the project on his blog. His blog probably generates more than 1000 hits in a day and if we can just get 10% of that everyday to bringnorah.blogspot.com, we'll get ppl to notice us in no time!

I was also surfing the net on Malaysia's blogger community and I found this.

http://allmalaysia.info/visitmalaysia2007/am_blog/

Do you guys think it's a good idea to submit? The closing date is this Sunday, 29th July. If we want to submit, we have to act fast. Tell me what you think.

Thursday, July 26, 2007

New volunteer :)

Yo,

We've got a new blogger - JY/hobbes :) Everyone, JY. JY, everyone. He created a digg for this blog, the more diggs we get, the more people will be aware of this site. So friends and family, go DIGG :) I can't remember the web url though... so I think he'll blog that once he wakes up (I'm just guessing. I mean about the waking up bit :P).

You know what hobbes. I think you could do us like the biggest favour of all. Get DiGi to sponsor? Hehehe, then all problems solved :) But that's too easy right? Not challenging enough for us, brains, here right? Hehehe. Right.

But honestly, I really won't mind the sponsor ;)

BringNorah Placards!

Hi peeps!

I have done the 1st draft of the placards design. Kantang has suggested that we add a little teaser message, just to get people excited! The whole idea is to get them to think that Norah is really coming already! (although, this will come true in no time! :P)
And tada! Here's the first draft. I've use strong bright colours to create attention and have kept the layout clean and straight to the point. Below are some of the colour version which I have done.
However, I also toyed with the idea of using different fonts for Norah's name (I noticed the different whimsical fonts on the cover of her albums...)

Tell me what you think and which is better. Throw me criticism if you think this is not good enough. Suggest to make it better if you can. I welcome any comments ppl...just shoot!

Contacted EMI.

Morning everyone,

I've emailed EMI and cc-ed Stellar Entertainments. I've tried my best to be as 'touching' as possible :) And hopefully the mail serves its purpose. Hehe. Anyway, now let's keep our fingers crossed because honestly, I have no idea where's this gonna take us. Which direction we will embark next. All these is growing and branching out all over. So exciting. Well, lets see where our compass takes us next.

Cheerios.

Buttons II

This set of buttons is purely basic with only text, just with different colours. Not so creative la. Anyone has better ideas for button designs?

Sign The Petition

I finally got the petition up. Check it out! So now you can go get people to sign it. So start spreading the word around y'all!

Button Links

I understand that some people are having trouble putting up the buttons on their blogs. So here's a little help with the HTML code. For those whose blog template has all sorts of widgets, just select the one that allows you to type in your own HTML code, then drag the widget to wherever you want the button to be.

Type according to the code below :-

Instead of the word THESOURCE, replace with either of these HTTP lines (depends on which image you want) :-

Button #1 - http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1272/880315944_fc68dba793_s.jpg
Button #2 - http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1354/880315866_0a62ed910c_s.jpg
Button #3 - http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1421/880315976_8700b0be73_s.jpg

It should appear on your site immediately. Hope it helps!

Added to Google!

Hi peeps!

Wow...you ppl are really getting it going - fast!

Updates! I've just added our site url to Google so that it will come to the top of the list when you googled Bring Norah. We're already top of the list in Yahoo...no reason why we should not be on Google. Also, to be on top of the list....we have to constantly update this site, so keep it going people!

Nice job on the promo buttons, Amanda! I have to get going with the placards...will definitely work on it tonight and show you guys the 1st draft soon!

And...hi Nick! Your addition to the committee has definitely bring benefit to the project. Great idea on the web petition...I personally thinks it is a great idea to create awareness on the project and to garner support from the public. We can even gauge what will be the response on the ticket sales if we are successful in bringing Norah here.

Another thing I like to add is that...since we have a group of 'committee' built up here, maybe it's time for us to elect a 'leader' for the project. This 'leader' is just mainly the face which we put out to represent the project when we need to talk to EMI or BlueNote or sponsors. We may need at least 2 person to be working on this part of the project while the rest of us take care of the background work. What do you think?

- wynie -

Any Suggestions?

Hi all!,

Ok, thanks to Porkchop, I have now access to modify the layout of this site. First thing I did was to add an "Purpose of this site" link, which I think should be there. It's a link to let people know the main objective of the site, otherwise, people will think it's just another one of those fan websites. I'm also looking for a reliable "web petition" where normal readers can sign it and give us support. It's sort of like a guestbook thing. So the more signatures we get, the better. Any other ideas on how to make the site better?

Promo Buttons

Morning!

A little update from my side, I've uploaded just very few buttons for everyone to put up on your websites, e-mail signatures, MSN avatars, etc... I know they're not really buttons and aren't so great-looking but hopefully it will do for the time being. I will try to add more fancy stuffs to them soon.

Bring Norah Jones to Malaysia Bring Norah Jones to Malaysia Bring Norah Jones to Malaysia
Promo buttons, take your pick

All you need to do is to right-click on the image, save it, add it into your template and link it to this blog. Let me know if you're unable to do this, kay?

On an even better news, thanks to Zona, Alda from Stellar Entertainment is interested to book Norah Jones and help promote a concert in KL. According to him, the record label only controls the album side of things and that the best way is to find concert promoters in KL. So that's where he will come in. I don't know about the charges and all, but perhaps we can negotiate with him first. So what do you think? Let me know!

Updates!

Wake up lovelies!! :)

Today I've got two announcements. The first is we need to welcome Nick to the committee. Everyone, meet Nick. Nick, meet everyone. It was so cool cause we started talking and coincidentally he knows someone from EMI. I think EMI is the distributor for Norah Jones in Malaysia. Gosh, I have to go back and check my CD. But anyway, he will try to contact the person and see if we can garner any support from the record label. Keep your fingers crossed!

Secondly, wow, Amanda just told me that when you type 'Bring Norah' in Yahoo! search engine, this blog will be the first to appear! Isn't that cooool? None of us did anything and still know nothing on how it got there in the first place. Like some internet magic :) We're trying to do that for Google. But the site that comes up the first is Amanda's. He he he. Well, it's good, although not directly linked but at least it's still in a way 'connected'.

Don't you just love the internet?

It seems like almost every day, I've been getting some good news. Although we're still very far from seeing the event coming alive but it's encouraging to know that we're moving an inch. Each day. Every day. At least we're moving :)

EMI Contact

Hi all! I have contacted EMI Malaysia, Norah's distribution company in Malaysia and they have told me to actually write in to them so they can forward it to BlueNote which is Norah's recording label in the States. Obviously they won't give us direct contact to the person in charge at BlueNote as it confidential information. Don't worry about sending to deaf ears, as the person in charge in EMI is a good friend of mine, and he is the Marketing Manager, Domestic Repertoire and he can forward the email and help follow up on our behalf. I do not want to disclose his contact details here as I won't want people to be spamming his mailbox. What I would suggest is to get a someone who can represent this community to write in after we have gathered enough materials and supporters. You can contact me so I can give you the contact details. Alternatively, we can write in to BlueNote directly via their website. So, any volunteers to do it?

More bloggers.

Hey all,

I've invited ALL of you 'committee members' (don't quite like the title, so we'll do away with it soon!) to be bloggers for this site. So that you're free to blog, rant, rave and share :) I'm not sure which emails you use most frequently since all of us have 1001 emails nowadays. So I've sent it to your yahoos and hotmails account. The one you used to log into MSN chat. Let me know if you didn't get the invitation okay. I'll fix it.

We need to get Norah's picture somewhere. But, it's too tacky to put it in the background huh. Ideas ideas ideas! :)

-pc-

100th visitor!

We're finally reaching our 100th visitor!! And as I blog this, probably we've reached OVER 100. Anyway, I've had a good weekend with Harry Potter and friends. I won't divulge too much here though, don't want to spoil it for others.

Anyway, I thought I'll just blog a bit here to see if everything is going fine, you know, the buttons and placards. I heard it's well on the way :) Great!

Will blog more. I think I need to contact Norah Jones' management and see how are we gonna go about doing this. Hmm...

Updates updates.

Wow look at our blog and how much it's... er. Grown. Thanks to Amanda and wynie :) and we have two new 'recruits' Charm and Kantang. Can you believe it? Support from over the causeway, ha ha ha.

Anyway, here are some updates for today:
1) We've got the ticket polls happening so vote, peeps. I know it was different from the one this morning cause I thought it's better if we have a 'range' or ticket prices :/
2) We've got Norah in the house y'all! Ha ha, thanks to Amanda, the player's running :) I wonder if we can change the song every month :)))
3) We've got the chatbox going so that everyone who's in the committee will get to talk to everyone and not just... me :P There are only so many msn chats I can handle at a time. He he he.
4) Kantang and wynie have volunteered to design and do the placards which are awesome cause they're really great designers and I can't wait to see them. Well they don't have to be CLIO winning but eye-catching enough at the counter to grab some attention. This type of attention? We like!

I know some of you are helping promote the website like crrrraazzzyyy, well done guys. Thanks a lot. I've been talking to my friends and colleagues non-stop too. He he he. I think they wish I'd stop! But it's exciting, no?

Rattling Ideas

Hi people,

This project is truly a great idea. Who knows, if this works, we can get other artistes to perform here!

For starters, we can probably create some cute little buttons, have everyone 'plonk' it onto their websites/blogs, e-mail signatures, whatsoever and get them to link the buttons to this blog. I'm also thinking that we can have an intro on who is Norah Jones, create a jukebox thingy here with some of her more well-known songs. Not so much of a fansite, but to show/convince the entire Malaysia (hopefully) why we want and should get her to perform here.

What say you? Do leave us some comments, kay. :)

- Amanda -

Thanks Amanda!

Now you can leave comments without the need to have a gmail or blogger account, thanks to Amanda :) Mucho thanks babes.

Now as mentioned earlier, I was wondering how much to set the ticket price. I think RM60, 80, 100 and 120 will be good for starters and then we can do a poll on it. I know I know, the cheaper the better right? Money don't grow on trees right? Well I know... but it's Norah Jones! I think... I'm willing to pay 80. But maximum would probably be 120. What are you willing to pay?

And come on guys, I'd love some feedback on who you'd like to see as the opening act. By the way, have you guys heard of Mei Chern before? She's really good. I'd love to see her sing.

By the way, we discovered that we need someone to take care of promoting this website online and also all the technical glitches (cause as you can see (or read), I'm really quite an idiot in this), so Amanda is going to take care of that. Mucho mucho thanks again babes. While I'll be... doing up the framework on how to get this thing going and coordinate... stuff. He he he. I was thinking last night that maybe we could advertise this at the record store. If we could do placards that say 'Bring Norah Jones to Malaysia!' with the blogspot url then we can beg record stores to put them at their counter. That way, music lovers will be able to see it! Hmm... anyone wants to take that up? Doing the placards? Otherwise, it'll be yours truly here...

Two new supporters!

Oh boy oh boy, we've got two new supporters (Elaine and Ivy)! So I've been getting a lot of questions from people who are now officially branded 'committee members' and those who are interested but are still quite hazy over the whole thing. The big big big big question was... what do I have to do? Well basically, like I mentioned earlier we need to set a framework first and the tasks needed to be completed for this event to come alive. I'll try to coordinate that the best I can so until then, I guess we'll all just have to sit still and let our juicy ideas flow.

I think the best way for me to summarize and delegate the jobs is: There are TWO main assignments for committee members which are:
1) To engage and interact with one another in this blog. We want to make sure that there's active interaction and participation from you guys, so do comment on things, give ideas (whatever they are, no ideas are silly ideas!), give LEADS (to sponsor$$$), etc. We want to create an event which is OURS and intimate, and
2) To promote this site via your existing social networks and blogs and MSN and whatever other means you use to connect with your fellow netizens. We need a lot of exposure folks!

So there. We welcome ideas anytime and I can't emphasize on that enough :) Have a fun-filled rollercoaster ride from now till December! Cowabunga!

Target date: 31st December.

Hi Peeps,

I was just thinking that we should put a target date on this project. So that it doesn't drag on forever. Let us put 31st December 2007 as the 'awakening' date as to whether this project will be a go or a no go. But first of all, we need to decide how much are we gonna charge for the tickets! At least we can have some budgeting going on and have a bigger picture of the grand scale of things! We don't want to make the tickets too expensive because I think music should be as accessible as possible. Especially good music. But neither do I want to do charity because everything costs money and we need to cover our expenditure in making this happen. But first of all, thanks for voting on the location, really appreciate that :) I like the cozy java joint with bean bags too. Makes the whole thing a lot more intimate, doesn't it?

The other thing is, since we're gonna organise this event, we might as well make it really ours. I'd like to see some of our local artists showcasing their music goods too alongside Norah. So the other big question is, WHO do you want to see performing alongside? Maybe the show opener? Drop your names in the comment so that we can do a poll on that. Doesn't matter if the singer/band isn't a famous one, so you can even vote for your own band (or yourself!) for that matter.

I think I'd like to see Mia Palencia opening the act...

Just a couple of hours old...

Wow! Less than 3 hours and there are four of us! Lets keep the numbers going! We're not sure who does what yet, just in case if you're wondering. But I'm sure everyone has got something to give. We just need to find out what's that. At least I know for sure, we've got one photographer here :) And one programmer/troubleshooter (haha!) which is great :) It's like building a house. Some are good plumbers, some are good carpenters, some are good designers, and some are just good at hydrating others with great lemonades! We welcome all sorts of skills because we've got one passion that drives us :)

Projek Bring Norah Jones to Malaysia!

This blog is dedicated to one thing. And one thing only. Which is to bring (high hopefully) Norah Jones to perform in Malaysia in the near future. No. This isn't something which we blog about today and then forget about it tomorrow. This time, we want to see things happen. Near future meaning this year (high high hopefully) or next. We're working individuals and we don't have an endless pit of goldmine to dig to bring whichever singers we want to bring. We have a bit of extra time to innovate, create, inspire and empower but due to our jobs, we can't do that full time. But we have passion. Sometimes passion fuels us better than food. Ask any artists and they'll say amen! So back to the story. We're creating a blog that will glue like-minded individuals together to create events they want to see happen. Something like a catalyst! Life's too short to wait for some big corporations to bring in musicians we so want to see before we die. Please remember, there may be no tomorrow. We don't want to sound too morbid or pessimistic but you great smart people out there sure know what we're trying to mean. So... if you believe in yourself and that you have something to bring to the table in making this happen, leave us a comment with your email and we'll get back to you. We want to build a community that will ensure this project comes alive. As you can see, this is our first post and there'll be many more on future updates of this project, just keep checking back. And if you want to contribute to this blog, we'll be more than happy to add you.

Fellow music lovers. Faith without works remains an ideal, a mere dream. It's time to make it real, make it happen :)
